Who is it they say I am?

Finally finished my first of two assignments for this summer class, a 4-page whopper about Pentecost and Antioch and Paul and so forth. Really difficult to get inspired, especially Saturday night when I wanted to get most of the work done. Summer's bad enough for concentrating, but then I had to walk through parades of prom kids outside the Union. I didn't know whether to rail against the universe or just try to look down the girls' dresses.

Doing historical study of the Bible is harder than I thought it would be. After I got rolling the paper was no problem, but I feel like I wasn't doing much more than parroting lecture. I could never blog the Bible like the guy on Slate, because when I look at the page I still see the preferred reading jumping out at me, the bits of Paul's preachy talking that people use for sermons and weddings, not the historical details. On the other hand, it's a lot of fun to deprogram your mind from what you've always been told this crazy stuff is supposed to mean and notice what a wild, fucked-up document it really is.

Applied for a couple Americorps programs the other day, but other than that I feel a dull but easy summer coming on. At least I'll have time to look for more ways out of here, and maybe I'll stop having out-of-body experiences in bars.
