I wandered round, with nothing more than time on my hands

Getting up to grab some more boxed wine, I realized I'd seen the same horrifying local TV commercial three times today, which makes me really glad I start back to work tomorrow and moving back to Lincoln this week. Jeez. I've really let myself go.

I'm still going to watch the CSI rerun at 11. But I'm really disappointed that we don't get channel 4, which has MASH on right now. MASH is so great. It's deceptive, like soul music. I never think about either one when I'm walking through my day; then when I find them again, I wonder why I ever watch/listen to anything else.

I'll go ahead and say it: best show ever. I know they did this poll a few years ago in TV guide and Seinfeld won, perhaps a just choice. And the Simpsons is still pretty funny after all these years. All in the Family was fanstastic. But nothing besides MASH could ever be as sly or outright hilarious, and then deathly serious, and have it all coalesce seamlessly. I always see actors in interviews say that it's so much harder to do comedy than drama, but that's crap. I could be ridiculous all day long; I could've written 26 years of Simpsons episodes, or whatever they're up to, ridiculing everything and everyone. Being deadly serious, however, is gut-wrenching. I prefer to do it only on the page, and there only sparsely. I have the lingering fear that someone will find it hysterical that I have deep feelings, or at least laugh at me for expressing them in such lousy poetry.

So what's the best show there ever was? And don't give me any bullshit about how it's impossible to say that, comparing apples and oranges across generations or genres. Just answer the question.

Eureka's Castle....I don't think I would be where I am today if it wasn't for that show. Or perhaps Muppet Babies....the only best shows I can think of are the ones from my childhood, which just make me nostalgic....thanks.

P.S. I came across your blog from some other DN blog I was reading, I'm not trying to stalk you I swear.....or am I?

That's true. I hadn't really thought about it, but I'd have to put Fraggle Rock pretty high up on my list, too. There's a FR reference in the story I'm writing right now, though, so I guess I have been in a way.

Whose blog led you to mine?

Honestly, I don't remember. It seems like everyone has links to different people's blogs and I think I just clicked one and found yours. I'll back track my steps and let you know though.
I can't say I ever remember watching Fraggle Rock. I probably did, I just don't remember. But it's cool you reference it in a story you are writing. What's the story about?

Ha! I figured it out, it was from your facebook profile. I stumbled across it and clicked and BAM there I was. Ok, I'm done now.

Andrew, please don't hate me but I've never seen an episode of MASH - my dad always thought it was awful for some reason so he pretty much forbid us to watch it. ... I've played the game a ton of times though :)

Did he think it inappropriately made light of our fighting men and women or war or something patriotic like that? Or was it the sex jokes?

Neither is a good reason.

i recall him saying a few times "that show is NOT funny" but i almost think it had to be something more ... something deep down that maybe he's not even aware of. i can ask him next time i talk to him. i'll let you know if i get anywhere.
