I went to my neighborhood's cheap Chinese restaurant—every neighborhood has several identical ones—and lo and behold, there was not protective glass separating me from the employees. I could practically reach out and touch them. How refreshing.
At some point I would like to be world-renowned for my wit, not simply small-circle-of-friends-renowned. In the meantime, I'd settle for a steady gig and a tall glass of I.P.A.

But did it have an awning. According to Sandy Koufax, you can tell if a Chinese restaurant is really good if it has an awning.
