Actually, it was yesterday, but Blogger was down.
Site: Cnn. com front page. Story: A look at race relations in modern America.
Problem: Everything, really.
I have to go by memory since something else is up on the site now, but it featured a typically strange graphic of a Black and White hand holding one another. Mostly, it was full of statements about how relations between "the two races" haven't improved as much as we think, and how black and white are still far apart.
Fair enough. It just didn't occur to anybody at CNN, apparently, that there are just as many Hispanics in the U.S. as Blacks, not to mention various Asian ethnicities and so forth. I'm not a huge P.C. proponent, but come on, get your fucking head in the game. It makes me wonder how Hispanics feel to be a trend story. "Look America -- Brown people! Something else for the parties to fight over!"
I didn't write a complaint letter -- no time -- so I don't know. Maybe it was only up for an hour. Maybe it stayed up all day, and the online editors went home happy, with the warm feeling in their bellies of whiskey mixed with the feeling that they said something interesting about our world today.
A finishing question: How do you feel about the word "race?" I mean, it comes from old stereotypes that non-Whites were so inferior they had to be genetically different, so maybe it's something we ought not stand for. But is that splitting hairs? We took the afternoon off at work and went to see the Governor's Mansion Christmas Trees. Well, they're "Holiday Trees," a point the guard corrected us on. I don't care. I don't care much about the baby Jesus, but Christmas has been sufficiently secularized that it doesn't bother me at all.
So leave us alone with the "Keep Christ in Christmas" bumper stickers. You celebrate your Christmas and I'll celebrate mine.

Yah, that story sorta irritated me. I didn't read it, mostly because the head and photo made me want to vomit. Not that we need to jump of the "black people aren't the enemy" wagon, but seriously, I think the Latino thing is pretty significant. Maybe it's because I live in a neighborhood where, despite blacks being the largest population, I can't understand a damn word on half the signs, let alone what men yell at me on the street ;)
